Itinerary
Italian Lakes & Swiss Alps
Upon arrival, transfer to one of the most enchanting enclaves of mainland Italy: Lake Maggiore, the country’s second largest lake. Let’s discover charming towns such as Stresa, a former fishing village on the lake’s shores and a gem of “Liberty” architecture—the Italian take on Art Nouveau. Boat trip to one of Ernest Hemingway’s favourite spots: the Borromean Islands. Visit the islands, made famous by the Borromeo family: Isola Bella, a former fishing village transformed into a Baroque palace complex between 1632 and 1671, including a visit to the Borromeo Palace; Isola Madre (panoramic view); and Isola dei Pescatori. Overnight.
Departure to Lugano, a city of parks and flowers, holiday villas and sacred buildings, and the capital of Italian-speaking Switzerland, set on the shores of the lake with the same name. Highlights include the Civic Park, with numerous open-air sculptures; Piazza della Riforma; the Cathedral of San Lorenzo; and Via Nassa, the main shopping street. Continue to Locarno, a Swiss town in the Canton of Ticino, stretching along the banks of Lake Maggiore. Highlights include Piazza Grande, the heart of the city and venue of the annual film festival, and the Visconti Castle. Return to Como. Overnight.
Departure to the northern shores of glacial Lake Como, covering about 146 km² and ranked as Italy’s third largest lake. Stop in Tremezzo, one of the region’s most popular resort towns, to visit Villa Carlotta and its 70,000 m² gardens where culture and nature blend harmoniously. Ferry crossing to Bellagio, considered one of the most beautiful towns in the Lake District. Bellagio retains a medieval and picturesque layout, with steep, winding alleyways, villas, and churches. Visit to Villa Melzi and its breathtaking lakeside gardens. Return to Como for a city tour including its ancient walls, Porta Torre, Piazza San Fedele, the Volta Temple, and the Cathedral. Return to the hotel. Overnight
Departure to visit Brescia - less known than Milan or Verona, yet no less charming or historic. It is also the birthplace of Pope Paul VI. Highlights include Piazza della Loggia, Piazza Vittoria and Piazza Paolo VI; the archaeological area on Via Musei; the New Cathedral with its bright white façade and huge dome; and the more sober, rounded Old Cathedral. Continue to Bergamo, a beautiful walled city rich in medieval, baroque, and Renaissance architecture, full of charming shops and cobbled alleys. Visit the Upper Town (ascend by funicular), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with highlights including Piazza Vecchia, the Civic Tower, Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, and the Cathedral of Bergamo. Continue to Verona. Overnight
Morning visit to Verona, world-renowned as the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. But Verona is much more than just a romantic tale. Highlights include Piazza Bra with its Roman Arena; Mazzini Street and its elegant boutiques; Piazza Erbe with the Lamberti Tower; Palazzo della Ragione; the Scaligero Arch and, of course, Juliet’s House. Continue to Sirmione (crossing by boat), located on the shores of Lake Garda—the largest lake in Italy. Visit the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Scaliger Castle. Departure northward to Tirano, a charming town in northern Italy, located in the Lombardy region near the Swiss border. Overnight.
Board the famous panoramic Alpine train – the Bernina Express. Journey through dramatic gorges, valleys, lakes, elevated bridges, and winding tunnels, reaching up to 2,253 meters in altitude on the way to glamorous St. Moritz. Rest of the day is completely free to enjoy this town - possibly the world’s oldest ski resort, known for its luxury hospitality, fine dining, and world-class winter sports. Overnight
We leave St. Moritz and head to Heididorf to visit Heidi’s village. This is where, in the imagination of author Johanna Spyri, the famous girl lived – a symbol of curiosity and adventure that inspired generations of children around the world. Heidi’s stories are UNESCO literary heritage. Visit the Lindt Home of Chocolate and immerse yourself in the sweet world of Swiss chocolate—with a giant chocolate fountain, interactive exhibits, tastings, and the largest Lindt shop in the world. We say goodbye to Switzerland on the way to Zurich Airport, enjoying beautiful scenery of lakes and mountains, passing by Walensee, Obersee, and finally Lake Zurich.
